GIS Users Group Meetings

GIS users Group (GUG) meetings, a part of the GIS User Community (GUC), are held on monthly bases in Kabul – Afghanistan. GUG identifies various sectors in Afghanistan that utilize GIS to share information and work towards establishing standards, reduce the duplication of GIS projects, provide technical support to one another, educate one another in GIS projects, hold technical discussions in relation to GIS and overall mapping activities in Afghanistan, review/update the potential integration of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS technology, discuss and share professional techniques in GIS as well as exchange new ideas with other GIS users. This meeting mandate is to bring professionals together using Geographical Information System (GIS) in Afghanistan, especially in Kabul. During these meetings, there are technical presentations followed by open discussions. The participants express their interest in holding the GIS user group meetings regularly with suggested improvements. The GUG meetings indeed are technical forums for discussing various GIS issues. In fact, these meetings have very positive impact on the users of this community as well as on their day to day GIS usage.
