Geo Conference

Geo Conference, a part from GIS Users Group (GUG) Meetings, is an occasion which is annually held by Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS) in Afghanistan. Hundreds of GIS users, high ranking government officials and people from different organizations; for instance United Nations, International Development Communities, NGOs, private sectors, embassies and various representatives from donor communities are invited to attend this event. This day is held in order to gather all the GIS user community and the high ranking government officials to share their GIS knowledge, understanding and experience with each other, to promote coordination between national and international organizations, to enhance the awareness of GIS projects in order to reduce duplicates in projects as well as to share other news related to GIS and/or GIS mapping software. The first Geo Conference in Afghanistan was jointly organized by Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS), Liwal Limited (ESRI and LEICA Geosystems Distributor), Afghanistan Engineering District (AED) and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Tuesday April 24th 2007. It was a good initiative in helping AIMS in enhancing the number of GIS users throughout Afghanistan. In the coming years, we hope that this approach help us in broadening the awareness of GIS with its various functionalities and effectiveness to the GIS community especially to those who are unaware of this system and/or have newly put their first steps in this system.
