Selected Maps from the National Atlas
The National Atlas of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan is the only comprehensive collection of thematic maps prepared by Afghan specialists. The project was a joint venture between the Afghan and the Polish Geodesy and Cartography Head Offices, with the assistance of UNDP. The masterpiece was started in 1977 and it was completed in 1984, encompassing 63 maps. Although a number of themes represent obsolete data, many maps are very useful to better understand the country.
